Our Emblem and Its Meaning

A symbol of shared roots, cultural heritage and global solidarity.

The GCTCH logo: an antique-gold interlaced emblem with a small turquoise square at its centre, above the navy wordmark GCTCH and the full name Global Council of Turk Communities and Heritage

The emblem of the Global Council of Turk Communities and Heritage (GCTCH) was designed to represent the shared historical roots, the cultural heritage, the mutual solidarity and the common responsibility for the future of Turk peoples living in different parts of the world.

Inspired by traditional Turk geometric ornament, weaving and interlace, the emblem reinterprets a historical aesthetic as a contemporary institutional identity.

Its central idea is that the Turk world can come together around a shared cultural awareness and solidarity while preserving its diversity.

Interlocking geometric motifs

The geometric forms at the heart of the emblem pass through one another and merge into a single whole. They symbolise the historical and cultural bonds between different Turk communities.

In this interlace every element is connected to the others; no single part creates the meaning of the whole on its own.

This is a visual expression of GCTCH’s inclusive approach to representation.

Turk peoples living in independent states such as Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, together with the Uyghurs, Tatars, Bashkirs, Sakha (Yakut) Turks, Khakas, Tuvans, Altaians, Gagauz, Crimean Tatars, Afshars, Iraqi and Syrian Turkmens and Turk communities in other parts of the world, are distinct and equally valued bearers of a shared cultural heritage.

The interlocking motifs represent these communities building solidarity around shared historical and cultural bonds while preserving their own identities.

Four directions, one shared heritage

The emblem’s symmetrical structure, reaching out in four main directions, refers to the presence of Turk communities across many geographies and to their cultural interaction.

The four directions do not stand for four particular states, nations or political borders.

Rather, they underline that the work of GCTCH is not limited to any one country or region.

A wide cultural geography — from Anatolia to the Balkans, from the Caucasus to the Volga–Ural region, from Turkistan to Siberia, from East Turkestan to the Middle East, and on to diasporas around the world — lies within the Council’s interest and work.

The emblem’s symmetry expresses the principles of mutual respect, equality, institutional stability and shared responsibility.

The turquoise square at the centre: a shared voice and meeting point

The small turquoise square at the centre of the golden interlace is one of the emblem’s most meaningful details.

It represents the common meeting point where different communities come together, and the unifying institutional role of the Council.

The turquoise square does not place any country, state or community above the others.

Instead, it symbolises the dialogue, the sharing of knowledge and the solidarity that grow around a common purpose.

For the Council, that common purpose is to research and protect the cultural heritage of Turk communities, to document their historical memory, to support scholarship and, where needed, to help bring the problems they face to international attention.

This small but distinct turquoise element reflects the idea of voices from different geographies meeting on a shared platform.

Our colours

  • #B98A35

    Antique gold

    Historical continuity and cultural heritage

The emblem’s main colour, antique gold, symbolises the cultural wealth that Turk peoples have built over centuries, their historical memory and the heritage passed from one generation to the next.

Choosing a measured tone that evokes historical depth, rather than a bright and showy gold, expresses the seriousness of the Council’s approach to cultural heritage.

  • #092C58

    Navy blue

Trust, scholarly rigour and institutional standing

Used in the GCTCH wordmark, navy blue represents reliability, stability, academic responsibility and a commitment to international dialogue.

It reflects the professional approach the Council takes to research, documentation, publishing and international cooperation.

  • #91D7EC

    Light turquoise

Communication, hope and a shared future

The light turquoise at the centre of the emblem symbolises communication between cultures, openness, renewal and responsibility toward future generations.

Turquoise, found across many Turk traditions of art and ornament, forms a visual link between the logo’s historical sources of inspiration and its contemporary institutional identity.

Cultural identity, universal principles

The GCTCH emblem was designed not to place any religious belief, political ideology or the sovereign symbols of any particular state at its centre.

This choice follows from an inclusive approach that recognises the different historical experiences, beliefs, languages, dialects and social structures of Turk peoples.

GCTCH values the shared cultural heritage of Turk communities while respecting each community’s own identity, language and historical experience.

Our emblem is a reminder that cultural solidarity does not mean erasing differences, but protecting them as the richness of a shared heritage.

Unity in Language, Deed, and Thought

— İsmail Gaspıralı

The principle GCTCH has adopted — “Unity in Language, Deed, and Thought” — expresses the Council’s intellectual foundation and the spirit of solidarity that guides its work.

It calls on Turk peoples to preserve their cultural and linguistic diversity while building mutual understanding, producing scholarly knowledge and working together.

  • Language

    Language carries cultural memory.

  • Thought

Thought is the foundation of reflection and dialogue about a shared future.

  • Deed

Deed turns these ideas into concrete results through research, education, publishing, the protection of cultural heritage and international cooperation.

The interlocking geometric parts of our emblem express visually that these three principles are inseparable.

What our emblem says

The GCTCH logo is not only the visual identity of an institution.

It is also a symbolic expression of the shared responsibility among Turk communities around the world who keep their historical heritage alive, protect their cultural identity and seek to make their voices heard.

Our emblem represents the idea of protecting the memory of the past while building the possibilities of the future together.

Different geographies. A shared cultural heritage. Mutual respect. A common future.
