Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we are asked most often.
What is GCTCH?
The Global Council of Turk Communities and Heritage is a U.S. nonprofit foundation based in Washington, DC. It works to document and make visible the cultural heritage, languages and rights of Turk communities and peoples of Turk descent through research, archives, publishing and dialogue.
Is GCTCH a registered nonprofit foundation?
Yes. GCTCH is a nonprofit foundation, tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
Are donations tax-deductible?
For U.S. taxpayers, contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. For any single gift of $250 or more, GCTCH provides the written acknowledgment the IRS requires. Please consult your tax adviser about your own situation; donors outside the United States should check the rules of their own country.
Which communities does GCTCH work with?
All Turk communities and peoples of Turk descent — in independent states, in stateless, indigenous and minority settings, and among displaced and diaspora populations. No community is placed above another.
Can I send family records or genealogical documents?
Not yet. To protect sensitive personal information, we do not accept identity documents, family trees or archival records until a secure, consent-based process with restricted access is in place. You can register a preliminary research request without attachments.
How are books chosen for the Library?
Only works that GCTCH has the right to publish, or holds a written licence for, are added. Each title states its licence, copyright holder and citation, and most can be read free of charge in the browser.
How do Academy research reports work?
The first page of every report is public. The full report is available to members only, after our server verifies an active membership. Membership plans will be announced once approved.
How can I get involved?
You can volunteer, propose an institutional collaboration, register interest in membership, or support our work with a donation. Start on the Forms & Applications page or write to info@gctch.org.
How do I report an error or request a correction?
Write to info@gctch.org with the page address and the correction you propose, ideally with a source. Corrections are made openly, with a note.
