On the 102nd anniversary of his passing, the Global Council of Turk Communities and Heritage commemorates Ziya Gökalp with respect and gratitude for his enduring contributions to the intellectual and cultural foundation of our world.
Ziya Gökalp was born in Diyarbakır in 1876 and died in Istanbul on 25 October 1924. A sociologist, writer and poet, he left works that shaped discussions of language, culture and identity across the Turk world — among them Türkçülüğün Esasları (The Principles of Turkism), Kızıl Elma and Türk Töresi.
